The church year that we observe has special times to commemorate significant events in the life of Christ. Many of these are marked by worship services.
Every year, for example, we have special services for Christmas and Easter, the two most significant days on the Christian calendar. We observe Advent, the four weeks of preparation leading up to Christmas. We also observe Lent, the forty days leading up to Easter.
Our Holy Week services mark major events just prior to Easter, including Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, his last meal with his disciples on Maundy Thursday, and his crucifixion on Good Friday.
The theme that ties all these events together is Christ’s love for us. As we relive them year after year in our worship services, we experience his love anew. And we discover our love for him growing in response.
