The practice of using written prayers in worship is new to some, but it has been the habit of God’s people for thousands of years. The Book of Common Prayer, from which most of our prayers are taken, contains some of the most sublime writing in the English language. These prayers echo familiar phrases of Scripture and teach sound biblical theology. Worshipers who learn to make these prayers their own often find them a passageway to deep, heartfelt worship. They find these prayers uniquely able to articulate the deepest needs and desires of their hearts.
