Children

At St. Andrew’s, our staff and volunteers are committed to fostering a healthy learning environment for our children. Following Proverbs 22:6, we strive to “train up a child in the way he should go;” because “even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Through careful consideration, research, and training, St. Andrew’s Children’s Ministry has chosen Godly Play as our curriculum.

Our preschool and elementary children are dismissed to participate in Godly Play and return to the sanctuary before the Holy Communion. We love inviting our kids into the sanctuary with us for worship and prayer, but also seek to provide age-appropriate teaching during the sermon.

The Godly Play room is a sacred space designed specifically for children. The children begin by listening to a lesson taught by our faithful volunteers. The lessons honor the children by making the Bible accessible to them. The materials and visuals are designed to help the child connect the Bible to their personal story. After the lesson, the children spend time wondering aloud with each other about the meaning of the story and then are given the opportunity to respond to the story with the materials in the classroom. Godly Play offers a creative, child-honoring way of entering into and experiencing the Biblical story. In the community of children, we hear the deepest call of all: an invitation to come play with God.
