In this sermon from the 14th Sunday after Pentecost (year A), Rev. Ben preaches on the dramatic highs and lows of St. Peter, who confesses Jesus as the Christ one moment, and is rebuked and called “Satan” in the next. Jesus rebukes Peter so strongly, because the cross is all-important, and any hindrance to it is a work of evil. Jesus also rebukes Peter, and us, because He loves us. But through our highs and lows, the cross remains the anchor for our souls.
